A Brief History Max and Floris made their first notable interaction at the 2005 WPA dance after a day-long Speech contest. Max was not only Floris's date but also Kelsey Thornton and Olivia Moskot's (there was a discount if you had a date). It wasn't until a year later when they got around to actually getting to know each other. They had plenty of time to bond during downtime of nightly Damn Yankees rehearsals. A few weeks after the show had finally ended, Max was taking her home after school and asked if-she'd--like-maybe--want-to-go-see--a-movie-that-weekend-or-something. She said yes, and that Saturday, they (chaperoned by Floris's siblings, Gary and Jacqueline...) saw Stranger Than Fiction. Max gave her six bars of Hershey's chocolate, which they smuggled into the theater and enjoyed during the movie.
They continued to date throughout their years together at Marion High School. They were involved in many activities together: speech, choir, musicals, plays, and show choirs. Floris even joined a jazz band with him; Max joined both Cross Country and soccer (even though soccer wasn't co-ed). Then came Floris's graduation (she is a two months older than him and one whole grade level older). The following summer, they spent far too much time together and decided to give the long-distance relationship a try. It turned out pretty well. A year later, Max graduated. He decided to go to a different college than Floris, but once again, that summer they spent far too much time together and continued dating. Staying together was never a difficult decision and while it was tough sometimes, the time together always made up for the time apart. And so, five years and a month after that first awkward date, Max asked Floris to marry him. |
